Buds Technology launches
Akssi™ Eligibility-Assist
Data-driven tool reduces hospice denials, speeds
reviews and strengthens compliance
Atlanta, GA, October 21, 2025
Buds Technology today launched Akssi™ Eligibility-Assist, a data-driven automation tool that helps hospices reduce denials, strengthen compliance and support clinicians with clear, defensible documentation. Eligibility-Assist applies Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services eligibility logic to structured and unstructured clinical data and produces physician-ready analyses and summaries. It surfaces key indicators in the context of each patient's diagnosis profile.
"In an environment where audit pressure is intensifying, hospices need more than intuition; they need rigor," said Farrokh Abadi, CEO of Buds Technology.
"Eligibility-Assist gives care teams confidence that their narratives are backed by referenceable, measurable observations rather than vague prose."
Why this matters now
Recent Medicare review data shows a large share of hospice denials stem from insufficient documentation supporting a six-month or less terminal prognosis (denial reason 5PM01). CGS Medicare
In a national hospice audit survey, more than half of reported denials cited the same 5PM01 reason. National Alliance for Care at Home
How Eligibility-Assist works
Eligibility-Assist translates regulatory rules, such as local coverage determinations, into decision-tree logic and evaluates trends in activities of daily living, Palliative Performance Scale scores, weight, pain, hospitalizations, comorbidities and medications. It generates an eligibility summary for the current benefit period and links findings to source documentation, including skilled nursing notes, medication records and lab results. Physicians can edit the summary, and the interdisciplinary team finalizes the determination.

"Reviews that used to take hours now can happen in minutes, with clear, defensible documentation every time," said Amanda McKissick, CEO of Blue Summit Hospice and Palliative Care.
Initial pilots report sharp reductions in manual review time and tighter narrative coherence. Buds Technology plans a nationwide rollout of Eligibility-Assist to hospice clients this quarter.
